A car without a license can-She becomes a collection vehicle?

The car without a license, a story of several decades

The car without a license does not date from yesterday! As early as the 1970s, the first carts begin to draw the contours of the modern VSP. In 1976, Bellier In particular, the Véloto, an amazing small four-wheel vehicle equipped with a 49 cm³ Solex engine ... which started by pedaling! A few years later, Arola in turn participates in the development of these small cars before giving birth to Aixam in 1983while Ligier and Microcar also launch in this market in the early 1980s.

Since then, many names have marked the history of the car without a license: Teilhol, Erad, Italcar, Tasso, JDM, Casalini, Chatenet, Bellier, Aixam, Ligier, Microcar and many others. Some of these brands today have disappeared, while others continue to change the VSP. But their old models are always there to testify to this story.

And time passes: some carts now have 30, 40, or even 50 years. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, a question therefore arises naturally: these old cars without a license can-They too, become collectible vehicles?

The answer is Yes, under certain conditions.

A car without a license can-She spends in collection?

Yes, a car without a license can get the mention "Collection vehicle", in the same way as another old vehicle, since it meets the conditions laid down in the regulation.

But beware: A VSP does not automatically become "collectible" on the day of its 30th birthday. In order to claim this mention, it must respond to three criteria.

Be at least 30 years old

First condition: the car without a license must have been Built or registered for the first time at least 30 years ago.

In concrete terms, in 2026, a vehicle built or registered for the first time in 1996 Thus, this year, the age threshold needed to be eligible for the words "collection vehicle", subject to fulfilling the other conditions.

The model should no longer be produced

Second condition: The model to which the car without a license must no longer be in production. The regulation speaks more specifically of "particular type", but the idea is that it must be a vehicle whose production has ceased.

A brand can perfectly exist today while having old models likely to go into collection. This is for example the case of older generations ofAixam, Ligier, Microcar, Bellier, Chatenet or Casalini which have not been manufactured for many years.

Conversely, the disappearance of a manufacturer is not essential: it is good the vehicle concerned and the stop of its production who count.

Have remained close to his original state

Finally, the car without a license must have been preserved in a state according to its original configuration. Its main technical elements should not have been significantly modified.

This does not mean that a VSP over 30 years old must have each of the parts mounted when it is exit from the factory. Over the years, it can of course have been maintained, repaired or restored, with the replacement of wear parts or defective elements.

The important thing is especially not to have deeply transformed the vehicle or modified its main technical characteristics. Maintain an old VSP to continue to ride it is not the same as transforming it.

The mention "collection vehicle" is therefore nor automatic or mandatory. If the owner wishes to obtain it, a specific approach must be done.

Then, How to make a car without a collection car?

How to take the process?

If your car without a license fulfills the conditions, the approach requires a Certificate of dating and characteristics, which can be obtained from the manufacturer or the French federation of period vehicles (FFVE).
