Quel est le rôle de votre carter d’huile ?

Le carter d’huile de votre voiture est une cuve métallique (souvent en aluminium) vissée sous le bloc moteur, avec un joint d’étanchéité. Il contient l’huile nécessaire à la lubrification des éléments mobiles du bas moteur et du haut moteur. L’huile y est puisée par la crépine de la pompe à huile qui la distribue sous pression, via le filtre à huile, aux différents organes (vilebrequin, bielles, arbre à cames…). Elle redescend ensuite par simple gravité. Le carter est équipé en son point le plus bas d’une vis de purge avec rondelle d’étanchéité, dédiée à la vidange périodique du moteur.

Quand changer votre carter d’huile ?

Le remplacement du carter d’huile est le plus souvent motivé par une perforation consécutive à un choc violent sous la voiture malgré la présence éventuelle d’une plaque de protection. Parfois, la même cause entraîne une déformation du carter pouvant endommager la crépine voir la pompe elle-même ou des fissures pour les carters en aluminium entraînant une fuite d’huile. Une fausse manœuvre lors d’une vidange peut également endommager de manière irréversible le filetage de l’orifice de vidange.

Pourquoi changer votre carter d’huile ?

Quelle qu’en soit la raison, un carter d’huile qui fuit doit immédiatement être déposé et remplacé en cas de dommages majeurs, sous peine de casse du moteur. Si le joint d’assemblage s’avère indisponible (certains constructeurs ne le proposent pas en pièce de rechange), il faudra faire appel à une pâte à joint appropriée, qui assurera sans problème une étanchéité tout aussi performante et durable.
